A UK-based
company claims to have developed the world’s first anti-aging gin, an alcoholic
drink infused with collagen that may make you look younger. The newly launched
drink that costs about £35 a bottle may provide a novel way to consume collagen
aside from the usual capsules available in the market. The beauty and cosmetic
industry markets collagen because as people get older, they lose valuable
components, resulting in lack of firmness and wrinkles.
The alcoholic
drink named ‘Anti-AGin’, was developed by the UK-based Bompas and Parr, that
creates food art using gelatin desserts. The 40% spirit is a combination of
momile and tea tree scents. Other ingredients include witch-hazel, nettle, juniper,
coriander and angelica root, the Tech Times reported.
“The ingredients
were specifically chosen due to their revitalizing qualities, including healing
sun-damage, being rich in minerals, inhibiting scar formation and to help
smooth cellulite,” Warner Leisure Hotels, which commissioned the drink, wrote
in its website. According to Warner, the gin contains pure collagen “as well as
a mix of anti-aging botanicals to help people look younger whilst having fun”. Collagen
is naturally produced by the body, but as people age, its production
diminishes.
It is
the most abundant protein in the body since it’s literally found everywhere –
in the bones, muscles, akin and tendons. One of the reasons why collagen is
reduced in the body is the exposure to ultraviolet light and other
environmental factors which are dubbed as extrinsic aging. That is why some
people may look older than others of their age.
Consuming
products containing collagen or using beauty products with it as ingredient, could
help reduce wrinkles and other signs of premature aging on the skin. “For those
that want to do everything they can to stay young, but din’t want to give up
alcohol, this is surely the next best thing,” Nicky Hambleton Jones, an anti-aging
expert told Tech Times.
