Green Tea Can Prevent Artery Rupture

Drinking green tea may prevent a deadly condition in which the body’s main artery becomes overstretched and bloated. Researchers found that abdominal aortic aneurysm developed less frequently in rats that drank polyphenol, a major component of green tea. Without treatment, abdominal aortic aneurysms rupture and lead to death 50% of the time. This condition often goes unnoticed because there are no symptoms until they burst. Polyphenol regenerates elastin, a protein that gives the artery its stretchy texture. Considering this disease is caused by inflammation and degradation of elastin components in arterial well, researchers thought drinking green tea may show promise.
